Safe Place is a runaway prevention, outreach and education program that provides immediate help to youth in crisis. The purpose is to provide young people with emergency access to intervention and prevention services. Whether youth have run away from home, are at risk of abuse or neglect, or are in need of respite from out-of-control family relationships, they can request assistance and be served at any Safe Place site. Please visit http://family-resources.org/asp/programs_safeplace.asp for further information.

The Safe Haven Law  allows for  mothers, fathers or whoever is in possession of an unharmed newborn, approximately three days old or less, to leave them at Safe Havens: any hospital, staffed fire rescue station, or staffed emergency medical service station, with no questions asked, totally anonymous, free from fear of prosecution. Please visit http://www.asafehavenfornewborns.com/ for complete information.

Keetch Byram Drought Index (KBDI)
The KBDI is a continuous reference scale for
estimating the dryness of the soil and duff layers. The index increases for each day without rain (the amount of increase depends on the daily high temperature) and decreases when it rains. The scale ranges from 0 (no moisture deficit) to 800. The range of the index is  determined by assuming that there is 8 inches of moisture in a saturated soil that is readily available to the vegetation
