At 16:01 on 11/03/06, Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue responded to a report of a structure fire at Bayshore On The Lake apartments, 4000 20 St. W., Bldg 17R Apt #314.

 

Upon arrival at 16:06, firefighters found smoke coming from the windows of the third (top) floor apartment. Firefighters initiated fire attack from the third floor balcony and set up ladders to the rear. Upon knocking the kitchen fire down, firefighters searched the apartment, finding no occupants. The fire was declared under control at 16:26.

 

The fire heavily damaged the kitchen and adjoining area and there was smoke & heat damage throughout the apartment. Firefighters stopped the fire from entering the building attic area and ventilated the apartment.

 

A total of 3 Engine Companies, an aerial ladder truck, a Battalion Chief and Investigator responded w/ a total of 15 personnel. Cedar Hammock firefighters were assisted by Southern Manatee firefighters.

The apartment occupant, who escaped prior to the fire department’s arrival, received minor burn injuries. There were no injuries to firefighters.

 

Damage to the building and contents is estimated at $12,500.00. The fire cause is under investigation, but is believed to be careless cooking related.
