June 28, 2009, at 14:21hrs Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at 3506 14 Street West, Avalon Square Apartments. First unit arrived on scene within 2 minutes of a 2 story 12 unit apartment building finding heavy smoke and fire showing from a second story apartment. A second alarm was called and Cedar Hammock was assisted by the City of Bradenton FD and Southern Manatee FD with a total of 25 personnel operating on scene . The fire was extinguished and contained to a single second floor apartment. The fire was under control within 15 minutes. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental with the point of origin being the area of the HVAC unit. Building estimated value was $ 1,000,000 with approximately $70,000 in damage reported .
